Web hosting is an over saturated industry, with too many hosting providers. Each provider offers their own set of features in their shared server. If you are a customers, what are the features that you want to have?

In shared hosting, customers will want to have cPanel and free SSL certificate. Most of our presale questions are about these two features.

To get new customers, standards features are needed, such as cPanel, softaculous, high uptime, fast page load. Attractive pricing is also needed to get new customers.

However, to get customers who can stay long with you, a stable and reliable is very important. Nobody likes a frequently sluggish websites or timeout page load.

cPanel is expensive for new hosting providers. We are thinking about implementing a new control panel. Definitely it doesn't offer everything that a cPanel does. It has the following set of features: Addon domains, ftp, error logs and access logs, file manager, PhpMyadmin, DNS Zone Editor. What are the other features could you think of that should be included?

You should install softaculous. That is the most needed feature. Many customer after signing up go straight to Softaculous to install wordpress, and they never login to control panel again.

You should use cPanel. You will have a lot of risks if you don't use cPanel: Issues a lot of refunds, customer unhappiness. Importantly, if you have to refund a lot, Paypal may quarantine your paypal account and future customers will find it difficult to buy your service.

cPanel practically have all needed features that a customer need. It is only the mater of which feature you want to enable and which feature you want to disable. From my experience, the default setting of cPanel should be good enough. Your most important job is to keep the server stable and immune to botnets and bad bots
